Hawaii

The 50th and most recent state of the United States composed entirely of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean,  Hawaii is a tropical paradise.   There are hundreds of islands in this volcanic archipelago, but there are eight main islands.    The photographs below were taken on the islands of Maui and Hawai'i, the Big Island.    There is much beautiful natural scenery, a warm tropical climate, an abundance of beaches, waterfalls, and active volcanos.    There is plenty of sea life to enjoy by diving or snorkeling.     The water is blue and crystal clear.    There are many different climate zones ranging from dry tropical to wet tropical on the coasts and on the slopes, tropical rainforest, through a

temperate climate to fairly cold alpine conditions.

The cuisine of Hawaii is a fusion of many foods brought by

immigrants.  I especially enjoyed the Japanese influence.

There was plenty of good sushi.   Also to mention, Spam is

a staple food item in Hawaiian cuisine!  My favorite was

poke (pronounced po-kay).  It is a raw tuna salad made with

different dressings.   Often it is served on rice.
