India

This page is dedicated to my first trip to India:  a country half-way around the world I heard so many stories about and built up an incredible curiosity and fascination with.  For a long time I kept dreaming of being able to travel to this country and experience it for real, in person.    I was very excited when I was invited to a friend's wedding in Mumbai, because that meant I was finally going to have the opportunity to experience India.    Below you will see pictures of some of the sights I encountered while visiting Mumbai, Goa, and the "Golden Triangle," which consists of three cities forming a triangle in the

northern part of India:   Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.    It's really difficult to appreciate the experience of travelling to India by looking at pictures alone.   It's a very sensual experience, with lots of noises, colorful sights, and exotic aromas.     It's a lot of fun to experience the public transportation, from hanging outside the doors of a moving train, to crossing the city in an autorickshaw.   I find this country endlessly fascinating, because you never know what you are going to see next!!    Unfortunately I was unable to photograph much food on this trip, but Indian food is so flavorful and delicious.    Food is seasoned with lots of different spices.   Each and every region of India has it's own unique cuisine.   There are so many different spice blends and unique fruits and vegetables.    One fun fact to bring up is that you eat with your hands in India.   Rice and bread is used to scoop up countless variations of curry, chutney, and many other tasty bites.    The sweets are very unique and often flavored with cardamom and saffron.   Together these spices create a flavor so unique to India.      This is my favorite country I have visited in the world, and you will find quite a few Indian recipes on my blog page!
